Chapter 24 & 25

Prompt: A

I think a good handful of the people believe that Tom Robinson is innocent, its just that they don't want to be seen as "nigger lovers" and be talked about like Atticus, or that one guy who acts drunk to hang out with blacks. I think that there afraid of what the town would think of them if they. It's just like in family guy where everyone hates Meg because thats the normal thing. But Peter secretly thinks Meg is cool, but would never tell anyone else. Another example is how no one likes America because maybe its the "in thing", say america are blacks. Maybe french people hate Americans but Germans honestly think America is cool, its just your neighbors thinks that and your also excepted to think that as well. It's just engraved into there culture.

Chapter 15,16,17

prompt: B

I chose the prompt that asked,"How do you think the story (what you read so far) would have changed if Scout and Jem had a mother present in their lives? Would it change for the better or for the worse? Explain your thoughts." I chose this because It seemed like the easiest to answer.

Well I think that if Scout and Jem had a mother, they would definitely be more like everyone else. They wouldn't of lived in such a "bubble" because Atticus wouldn't be the only person they have left. Calpurnia would be there so they might be racially in-sensitive. Scout would also be more feminine because she has her mom to hang out with.

In total I think it would change for the worst because, the fact they grew up in a different environment then everyone else helped them see things in a new perspective.

To kill a mockingbird ch: 13, 14

Perspective : Scout

Aunty Alexandra staying at our house is like hell on earth!! She's made her self at home already and it feels like shes lived there for ever. She thinks she's always infallibly correct. She goes off on some shenanigan about me and Jem "not having pride about being Finchs". She kept pushing Atticus to tell us everything she believed was right it seemed like he was compensating alot. She's the major antagonize of the house.I acquired knowledge as to what rape was. Then when I asked ATTICUS not Alexandra if I could go to Calpurnia's house, Alexandra said no!! Can you believe the nerves of her. I tried to tell her that I was asking Atticus and he got mad at me saying I was "sassing her". I was over hearing what they were saying and of course Alexandra wants Calpurnia gone. Then out of no where Jem made me go up stairs threatening to spank me if I bothered Aunty again. Jem was starting to get on my nerves so my inner demon emerged I fought him. Good thing I stepped on Dill or I wouldn't have made it through the day. But Jem once again made my blood pressure go up by ratting out Dill! Good thing he was able to spend the night there. When I tried to extract information fro him he said, He said felt like a third wheel at his house so he ran away. We started talking pensively about lots of thing until we finally went to sleep. I was still angry at Jem sudden mature preoccupations.

Perspective: Scout

Chptr 10
School is not getting any better but I'm holding my will to fight and clobber them to china. But something I noticed is that Atticus is ALOT older than all the other kids dads. He never does anything but sit on the couch. Now that I think about it he never goes hunting or any of the stuff normal dads do. I mean even his job is just sitting in an office while other dads are mechanics and engineers. Even when me and Jem got air rifles he didn't teach us how to shoot!! He only told us to shoot at blue jays and tin cans, not mockingbird. I got the ingenuous idea to ask Ms. Maudie about why I couldn't shoot mockingbird. She told me that mockingbirds don't bother you so you shouldn't bother them. I couldn't help but think of boo radley when she said that. While I was talking to her I decided to also ask about why atticus is so old. Miss Maudie tried to tell me how Atticus wasn't just an old man. It wasn't till Tim Johnson, the neighborhood dog, caught rabies and was terrorizing the neighborhood. Tim went next to the Radley house and it was a one shoot chance, so the sheriff entrusted the gun to Atticus to my surprise. In the perplexity of this all turns out he was a sharp shooter and killed the dog in one shoot. Ms Maudie told me he didn't hunt because he felt it was a unfair advantage to the animals he hunted. Me and Jem became less Fanatical about the Radley place and more into the town of maycomb. Jem got money for his birthday and decided to buy a toy train and get me a baton that I've been eye balling. We usually pasted ms dubose who seemed isolated, the only interactions with other humans she had was when she was yelling at them on her porch. Atticus told us to just ignore her and we did but one day she said mean things about there family and that pushed Jem to the edge. After he bought his toy he took my baton and murdered Ms. Dubose's flowers and left my baton there. I started crying and he kicked me and helped me up. When atticus found out he made Jem go to Ms. Dubose's house. She made us read to her for two hours a day for a month. The next day me and Jem went there and read. It didn't even seem like she was listening all she did was rant about everything. Eventually the timer rang and we went home. After about A month or so I began to notie that we stayed there longer and longer as each day pasted . We were pretty acquainted with the schedule. When a month pasted Ms. Dubose told Jem to read for another week. Atticus agreed and Jem and Atticus had a debate about it. Jem finally agreed and after that week we were finally free. After about a month or so the poor old woman dies. Turns out she was a morphine addict. Before she died she made a box with the most prettiest flower ever and gave it to Jem. It was really boring ever since Jem became more mature and what made it worse was that dill couldn't wouldn't come back because of his mom re-marriage. The only interesting thing to happen was going to nigger church with calpurnia. At first this black lady was angry at us but then the rest of the church was very nice and welcoming. I sat adjacent to Jem. They talked about Tom Robinson and how his kids and wife needed money, at least $10. I was flooding with questions. I asked why Robinson was in jail and Calpurnia said it was because of rape accusations. I asked her what rape was but she wouldn't tell me.

Chapters 8-9
Perspective of Atticus

Dear Diary,

Today it started to snow. The only other time I can remember it snowing was in 1885. The kids love it. They asked me how to make a snowman, but I had no idea. Jem really is smart. He thought of a way to make a snowman and just started with the idea. He first went to go get more snow and get some earth too. After he made it, it almost looked like Mr.Avery. I told Jem he would have to change something on it so it did not look like Mr.Avery. After all of that it still looked good. Which I was unanimous with it.

Next day I wake up the kids because Miss Maudie's house is on fire. We rush over to help her. I tell the kids to go stand over near the Radley's house to stay safe. I help the firefighters with getting all the furniture out. Mr.Avery decides to go to the second floor a throw her mattress out of the window. Then when he tries to get out of there he gets stuck. but he made it in the end. When the fire is taken care of we go back home. I ask Scout where she got the blanket she had on from. Both Jem and Scout have no idea. I told them it was Bo who gave it to her. Boo is chameleon that is why they did not see him. After that Jem tells me the truth about everything they have been up to. Before work I go by and tell Miss Maudie what the kids told me. Surprisingly she was not grieving over her house. She was more happy about it because she said now she can have more garden space instead of a huge house.

Next we go up to Finch's Landing for Christmas. Scout tells me about people telling her about me defending a negro. Which I am doing because I will never live with myself if I didn't try. I tell Scout not to care about what people say. We go to the train station to meet up with my brother Jack. Uncle Jack brought my gift. I got Jem and Scout air riffles for Christmas. Scout keeps cussing and I think she might have picked it up from school. She tries to be nice to Francis but he is just a mean kid.

After Scout beats up Francis I have a talk with Jack. I hoped Scoutevasion Francis. Scout is really getting tormented with Christmas. to We start to talk about the case. I tell him that I will lose because it is the Ewell's word against a Negros. I also told him how Scout and Jem will get a lot of flack from this case and how they have to be strong and to not care about what people say. I knew Scout was listening so when I give my point I tell her to get back to bed. I think she thought she was being sneaky about it, but I knew the whole time.

Great story! I like the describing words and how you describe everything in this chapter. Also great punctuation no run on sentences.. I like how its several paragraphs and not a big blob so its easy on the eyes.
Lastly I would like to point that you felt your character well and it shows in this blog

Chapter 8-9

Perspective: Scout

So many things are going on right now and it all started when something unusual happened in Maycomb, it snowed!! One of our fat neighbors insisted that weather changed because of bad kids, Jem and me probably. so in retaliation I made a snow man who just happens to look similar to our pot-bellied neighbor Mr. Avery. My dad thought it was funny, but he made me disguise it more by using Miss Maudie's straw hat and garden shears.

The next even crazier thing to happen!! Miss Maudie's house was on fire!! My dad woke me and jem up that very cold night and told us to stand the street next to the Radley's place. Then when we got back Atticus noticed a brown blanket wrapped around me! Jem and dad said it was boo which was very shocking. When he told us to return it Jem blurs everything to dad about the pants and game!

CHP 9

At school a kid keep making fun of me because my dad was defending a black man. I would of clobbered him to china but before that I wanted to know why that was such a bad thing. Atticus told me that he was defending Tom Robinson, A black man. Atticus knew he was going to lose because he was black but he was still going to defend him. He told me to ignore anything that anyone said about him or the trial, and I keep promises. The only time I almost broke that promise is when we went to finch landing and my bratty cousin who would make fun of my pants called my dad a "nigger-lover" I may not know what that means, but I could tell it wasn't good by the way he said it so I clobbered him until uncle jack stopped me. Thats when I called him "Whore-Lady" When I got back I was sure that Uncle jack would tell Atticus, but when I went downstairs for A drink I over heard them talk about me. The surprising thing is that jack didn't say about the fight. He also said how he doesn't want Jem and me to grow up like the rest of the people in this town. Of course dad knew I was there and told me to go to sleep. I guess he wanted me to hear about it.

Chapter 4-7

Perspective: Scout

School is so boring!!! compared to the first day the rest of the year was boring. The only fun thing was this knothole in this tree past the radley house. There were so many interesting things inside that knothole! One day there were gum and pennies. Me and Jem started wondering if it was but summer came so we stopped passing that tree. When school resumed we thought it might be someones treasure spot or something but it wasn't. later on we found two soap carvings that looked eerily similar to me and Jem and a broken pocket watch. Then Nathan Radley covered the knothole with concrete to "save the tree"

We played a game with a tire and I rolled into Boo Radley's yard! I don't think I was more scared in my life. I thought I heard him laugh to! After that freighting experience we decided to play a game where we acted out what we think happen to Boo Radley. Then my dad Atticus caught us but we said it had nothing to do Boo. after that they still wanted to play! I called out. They finally gave up.

They started playing by themselves so I hung out with Miss Maudie Atkinson who let us use her yard as long as we stayed away from her flowers. I asked her about Boo Radley and she claimed that those stories were just a load of crap. Jem and Dill decided to write Boo a letter and leave it on his porch. They used a fishing pole to get it there, But had to stop because Atticus caught them. Later on they peered through Boo's window and saw a long black shadow fall over Jem, so they ran and Jem caught his pants on the fence as they ran they heard gun shots blast off. They got to their house and saw a crowd infront of the Radley residence. Nathan Radley said he saw a black guy walked on his property, but he didn't shoot him. Someone noticed that Jem wasn't wearing pants and he said he was playing strip poker. That night Jem decided to get his pants back. I told him it was a bad idea but he went any ways, but found them sewn and folded on the other side of the fence.

To kill a mocking bird: Chapter 1

From Ms. Caroline's point of view

Well its my first day as a 1st grade teacher and I cant wait. I may be young but I'm a stern teacher just like I was back home in northern Alabama. Maycomb is a very small town compared to where I'm from.

My first day wasn't exactly what I excepted. First off theres this girl named Jean Louis Finch, but goes by Scout. She's already learned to read and write! She's even learned some cursive. To think her father Atticus is taking my job! He's not the one with a degree! I am. she's far to ahead of the rest of the class. I suppose she would of thought I'd be proud of her. Then after that she had another "Incident" where she called another student,Walter Cunnigham, poor. Just because he didn't have a lunch doesn't mean hes poor. She claimed he didn't take my quarter because he couldn't pay it back. I didn't accept name calling in my class so I swatted her with a ruler and sent her to the corner till lunch was over.

At lunch I swore I saw a couple a kids, looked like Scout and Walter, fighting in the sand, but another kid stopped them so it was okay. Boy it better not be Scout.

After lunch was even worse! A student by the name of Burris Edwell had lice in his head so I decided to send him home when another student claimed that today would be the only day he would come to school because hes an Edwell. After hearing that I told him to stay but he refused. I keep insisting until it became adherent that he would not so I finally told him to leave. He stormed off in an anger tantrum and I just couldn't believe my ears as to what I was hearing. At least a couple of the kids comforted me.

QUESTION 1:What has surprised you in the book? Why?
RESPONSE 1:The part that suprised me the most in the book was that the main villain turned out to be Mary, A main character, brother, who sunk to the center of the earth. When I read this I was like What! the main good persons brother is the McGill, the main antagonist!! Another surprise was that Mary keep the secret of leaving everlost from everyone. She made everyone throw there coin in a fountain.

QUESTION 2:Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?
RESPONSE 2:I would like to be Mary because she has sooooo many things, Like she had a new nice jaguar that she traded for cake! She also has a railroad to take her to Atlantic city. She has connections to people with transport from boat to ship. Another character is the hunter. He can connect to the outside world. He steals food from the living world, which is like impossible for ghost. He can also hijack peoples body and control them. Also as a ghost you can read peoples minds which sounds like a load of fun

QUESTION 1:What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?

RESPONSE 1: I think the action of one of the main character, Nick, was wrong because he found a way to leave everlost and I personally think people should stay in everlost and it is a gift to be there. Everlost could be like a second ever lasting life. you may see things you never got to see in your life time such as the titanic or pompeii.

QUESTION 2: If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be? Why would you change it?

RESPONSE 2:I would make it so that they explore the world more instead of staying in New York. I thought that would be so cool. They have the stuff to fly around the world, the Hindenburg. Another thing would be that Mary would stay at the world trade center instead of moving to the Hindenburg.

Weekly Reading Response: Everlost

Question: . What does this book make you wonder about? Why?

- In this book when you don't make it through the light, you end up in limbo between life and death called everlost. They can see and hear the living world but can't interact with it. If they stand in any place to long they sink through the earth, in the book it's called " Gravity Fatigue". No one knows how far you fall because anyone who falls never returns. But there are certain exceptions, such as, if someone dies in a certain spot it turns into a "dead-spot" where everlights, the name of people in everlost, can stand without sinking. Along with dead-spots there are areas and objects that if truly loved would cross over to everlost

This made me wonder about all the different places that could be in everlost. In the book they named a few, such as the World Trade Center complex, the Hindenburg, the old Pennsylvania Station, and an old atlantic city pier. They even had a boat! this made me wonder what else was in everlost. The Hindenburg was driven around the world with a kid who died with it. this made me wonder what other boats there were, maybe the titanic was being sailed across the ocean, or maybe the U.S.S. Oklahoma finally got out of pearl harbor. Also the Twin Towers were occupied by hundreds of little kids playing around the plaza and staying in offices converted in to bed rooms. Then I thought what if the singer building was still in Lower Manhattan, I started thinking of how I would make the building my own. Maybe the great pyramids would be restored to its original decor. Maybe even all of Egypt would return to its glory days of pharaohs and kings. Entire cities brought back to life, Pompeii would return to its pristine state before mount Vesuvius erupted. For all I know even Hiroshima and Nagasaki would return to it original state with everlights walking around in the non-existing streets. Even simple things like I-pods could cross as long as someone truly loved it. In the book even a TV crossed to everlost, but it only played what was on in april 1970 . Even a birthday cake crossed over.

Question: which character would you like (or not like) to be your friend? Why?

-I would chose Mary hightower .which isn't her real name, as friend. She adopted that name because she lived in the twin towers which were "high towers". She could be called the leader or care taker of the everlights living the WTC. I would be her friend because she established a trade to get products to her WTC everlight citizens. She has connections to everlights that have certain transportation like cars and trains. She also believes people should stay in everlost. One of the main characters found out of a way to get to "the bright light at the end of the tunnel". This enraged her, because she believed it was a privilege to be accepted into everlost, while Nick, the character who found out how to get across thought that everlost was a museum not a place to live in. I side with Mary because everlost is a civilization waiting to happen. The oceans still separate the contents. The world is once again "big" in everlost. I would try and connect the world, sail the seven sees looking and staying at places that no longer exist, from the twin towers to Pompeii, to Hiroshima to ancient Rome. I would basically be an adventure. Doesn't it sound fun sailing an unknown world on an ghost ship of the titanic, the RMS Olympic, or even the battleship Bismarck, with friend from all over and different times. Mary tries to repopulate New York City one everlight at a time which is something I would do.

Book

For my free choice book I want to read Everlost. It is about two kids who die in a car accident and become stuck in limbo, not dead but not alive kinda like ghost. You journey with them through this new world where adults don't exist and monsters like the McGill roam. Will they find there way home back to the land of the living, or will they learn to adopt the way of the ghost. I want to read this book because it seems really interesting. It takes place in the east coast around New York. In total I really want to read this book.
