Weekly Reading Response: Everlost

Question: . What does this book make you wonder about? Why?

- In this book when you don't make it through the light, you end up in limbo between life and death called everlost. They can see and hear the living world but can't interact with it. If they stand in any place to long they sink through the earth, in the book it's called " Gravity Fatigue". No one knows how far you fall because anyone who falls never returns. But there are certain exceptions, such as, if someone dies in a certain spot it turns into a "dead-spot" where everlights, the name of people in everlost, can stand without sinking. Along with dead-spots there are areas and objects that if truly loved would cross over to everlost

This made me wonder about all the different places that could be in everlost. In the book they named a few, such as the World Trade Center complex, the Hindenburg, the old Pennsylvania Station, and an old atlantic city pier. They even had a boat! this made me wonder what else was in everlost. The Hindenburg was driven around the world with a kid who died with it. this made me wonder what other boats there were, maybe the titanic was being sailed across the ocean, or maybe the U.S.S. Oklahoma finally got out of pearl harbor. Also the Twin Towers were occupied by hundreds of little kids playing around the plaza and staying in offices converted in to bed rooms. Then I thought what if the singer building was still in Lower Manhattan, I started thinking of how I would make the building my own. Maybe the great pyramids would be restored to its original decor. Maybe even all of Egypt would return to its glory days of pharaohs and kings. Entire cities brought back to life, Pompeii would return to its pristine state before mount Vesuvius erupted. For all I know even Hiroshima and Nagasaki would return to it original state with everlights walking around in the non-existing streets. Even simple things like I-pods could cross as long as someone truly loved it. In the book even a TV crossed to everlost, but it only played what was on in april 1970 . Even a birthday cake crossed over.

Question: which character would you like (or not like) to be your friend? Why?

-I would chose Mary hightower .which isn't her real name, as friend. She adopted that name because she lived in the twin towers which were "high towers". She could be called the leader or care taker of the everlights living the WTC. I would be her friend because she established a trade to get products to her WTC everlight citizens. She has connections to everlights that have certain transportation like cars and trains. She also believes people should stay in everlost. One of the main characters found out of a way to get to "the bright light at the end of the tunnel". This enraged her, because she believed it was a privilege to be accepted into everlost, while Nick, the character who found out how to get across thought that everlost was a museum not a place to live in. I side with Mary because everlost is a civilization waiting to happen. The oceans still separate the contents. The world is once again "big" in everlost. I would try and connect the world, sail the seven sees looking and staying at places that no longer exist, from the twin towers to Pompeii, to Hiroshima to ancient Rome. I would basically be an adventure. Doesn't it sound fun sailing an unknown world on an ghost ship of the titanic, the RMS Olympic, or even the battleship Bismarck, with friend from all over and different times. Mary tries to repopulate New York City one everlight at a time which is something I would do.
